The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes!


The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes was a mystery-detective radio drama which aired in the USA from 1930 to 1956.   Later episodes of the series were produced by the BBC.   Many of the earlier episodes from the 1930s are considered lost.  The series was based on the Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

For most of the show's run, the program starred Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson.  Other actors played Holmes and Watson in later seasons.  Orson Welles played Holmes' archenemy Professor Moriarty opposite Sir John Gielgud's Holmes in the episode "The Final Problem" broadcast on June 5th, 1955.  Sponsor's of the program included Household Finance, Bromo Quinine, Petri Wines and Clipper Craft.
